Cannibal Corpse is probably one of the most productive
bands out there, with Torture being their twelfth album in 22 years.
As has been the case with the two preceding albums, Erik Rutan of Hate
Eternal is once again producing the album. He's not one of my personal
favourites but his work on Torture is okay. Not great, by any means,
but at least not as sterile and lifeless as Kill, Evisceration Plague
or the latest Hate Eternal album.
What about the songs? Well, it's basically same old, same
old. It's no point in me dissecting (no pun intended) every single song
- you probably know what to expect if you've ever listened to Cannibal
Corpse. They've pretty much recycled themselves for God knows how long
now - that is, if God listens to Cannibal Corpse. If he does, he's probably
as tired of Corpsegrinder's static, machine-like growling as I am.
Comparing this to strong death-metal releases this year
- from bands such as Asphyx, Inverted Cross and Aborted - there just
isn't any competition. Nonetheless, hard-core fans will probably enjoy
this album but personally I'm bored after three songs. Creativity and
productivity don't always go hand in hand.
