Here we're dealing with a band that's been keeping the metal banner hoisted for a very long time. Canadian Anvil released their first album Hard'n Heavy already back in 1981 and now, more than 20 years later they're back to prove a point with their most recent achievment and the title Still Going Strong makes it very easy to understand what point that is...

The sound can be summerized with the following descriptive terms: Fast, heavy, aggressive, intense, powerful, good riffing and vocals and above all- excellent drumming. But Anvil's got such a unique style with their music that it feels very hard to describe it in a more detailed way and compare them with other bands is yet even harder. You'll just gonna have to listen for yourselves and make up your own mind what to think of them. Those already familiar with the band can expect a bit more heavyness and more mid-tempo songs compared to their former uptempo roots.

For myself the album had to spend quite some time spinning in my CD-player before it stuck in my head and despite that there was a bit too much thrash and too little power for my taste I still liked it. So, as you might already have guessed, this is not an album for those who crave brilliant melodic beginnings, majestic choir-refrains and twin guitar harmony solos, but instead for the ones who prefer things rougher, heavier and thrashier. It might also be a good choice if you feel a strong curiousity for the genre and want to explore it further, but if that urge doesn't exist I wouldn't pay Anvil much attention.

Still Going Strong is a title opened for some debating but I say it honours the band's long history and lives up to it's name if you're into this department of the metal scene. A plain and simple good album- no more- no less!
