Second time around for Axel Rudi Pell with a dvd that has almost the same setlist as the one before, which makes it three in total. Lack of inspiration? Imagination? This show was captured one evening during the Rock Of Ages festival in Germany, July 31st 2009.

Show- and song wise, this is a standard concert by Axel Rudi Pell, nothing more nothing less, and if you take in account that the sound could be a bit better and that the show could be a bit more inspiring, this is below par.

Johnny Gioeli is always a pleasure to see and to hear, but the rest of the guys in the band are not the most energetic or showful ones, including mister Pell himself. Sure, keyboardist Doernberg and drummer Terrana break some sweat but they are still stuck behind their respective instrument. And I'm sure bassist Krawczak is a great guy and he sure can play, but his stage presence just drags the whole thing down, as much now as it always has. It's quite a bit of comedy over the whole thing, to be frank.

I really hope Axel will make another dvd soon which will include some new songs from the latest couple of albums, and especially from the new album The Crest in order to spark some new life into the whole thing. No matter how good the songs indeed are, I think it's safe to say that the audience is done with this setlist and this drum solo now. That is why the grade for the compositions and the final grade differ so much in this review. The majority of the songs are in fact good, but the overall grade for the whole package is low.

I'm game for an Axel Rudi Pell dvd any day of the week, but it has to be more engaging than this to be a hit in my book. Credit has to be given, though, to the fact that this dvd is released for midprice as far as I understand it. Probably because of the above mentioned circumstances and the fact that there is no extra material, just the plain concert.
