The Canadian, or if preferred, the Québécois
outfit Voivod is a band which with quite a few different lineups has
taken part of the metal community since the early 80's. My interest
in this band has been close to non-existent so far and after listening
to this new EP and by basically thinking that it's an almost complete
wreck, this situation is probably not ever gonna change.
Besides maybe the cover version of Hawkwind's Silver Machine,
this EP holds almost no good moments musically and sonically it doesn't
live up to my requirements since it comes out kind of rattling. The
partially progressive and speedy approach and the experimental environment
make the music come out without an attractive groove and the songs seem
to painstakingly move forward without a clear target since they have
a total lack of melodies. Add to all these unflattering words a vocal
performance that is indeed not strong enough to build momentum to the
songs.
It's a no-brainer that you have quite easily figured out
already that I think that this is a really dull and poor encounter and
that I think that the songs on this debacle are unable to bring forth
any nice or positive pictures in my mind. Hence I believe that sharing
more about my opinion on this EP is unnecessary.
