Black Thrashing Terror is the first EP from English retro
thrash-metal newcomers Cultfinder. The music reminisces of bands such
as Necrophobic, Nifelheim and the early works of Sodom - fast-paced
thrash metal with a large dose of black metal. It's not a genre where
it's easy to stand out but Cultfinder manage to capture my interest
by well-written songs and good riffs.
The title track kicks off the EP and it's definitely a
strong number, with strong riffs and a simple but addictive chorus.
The production is of course slightly rough but after listening to countless
hours of over-produced, modern thrash metal there is something refreshing
about it although the drums perhaps could have been toned down a little.
The other two songs feel a little rougher around the edges
but still offer some variation and change the tempo up. Overall, I'm
not blown away but this EP is definitely a decent listen, especially
considering that it's their first release apart from demos. I'll keep
an eye out for their future releases.
