15 questions to Patrik Johansson - Astral Doors

**************************************************

1. Now when you have insight in the business - would you encourage your daughter or son to become a professional musician, or advice against it?

  • Patrik: Oh God damn, I already have a son that's in the business. He's a drummer in the young death metal band Quantum. I try to help him when he asks for my advice. Even if I want it or not, I guess that music is in our blood. The music industry is going to hell, sure, but I think it's the same within the sport-business as well, so yes, I'll encourage my kids to do whatever they feel to do.

2. A metalsong you think "Man - I wish I'd written that one...." when you hear it?

  • Patrik: I could give you a lot of songs here, but if I have to mention just one, I have to say "Hallowed be thy name". This song has got everything I like in a metal song.

3. The last album you bought/acquired, and your brief opinion about it?

  • Patrik: Oh shit, I think it was a Nightwish-album called Once. Pretty good stuff, but gets rather boring after 2-3 songs.

4. If someone told you tomorrow that you can't be involved in music anymore, what do you see yourself doing in 5 years from now?

  • Patrik: I would work with something where I can use my imagination and my creative side.....maybe I would start drawing comic-strips.

5. Myself as a privat person in a few sentences?

  • Patrik: Pretty laid back. Private I'm not much of a "happening guy". I like to watch DVD and drink beer. It's different when it comes to my singing: there I'm a workoholic and a perfectionist.

6. Unexpectedly and out of the blue you get a whole week totally off from music and work - what would you most of all want to do?

  • Patrik: I would rent a boat and go fishing.

7. Mp3 - an abomination or a good way to make your name and music heard?

  • Patrik: A bit of both. For unsigned and unknown bands, it's a great thing. It not so fun though when people download whole albums instead
of buying them. It's like stealing money from the artists. But what the hell: it's reality, and we might as well try to live with it. The music business have some work to be done in this matter.

8. What do you treasure most in your life, except metal and family?

  • Patrik: Sport on TV. I'm a total sport-nerd. I really treasure my quality time with beer, chips and a good game of football or ice hockey on TV.

9. An instrument you always wish that you started playing/learning, but never did?

  • Patrik: Bag pipe.

10. Beer, whisky, wine or a cocktail in the tv sofa on a relaxed at-home-saturday night? Brand of the beverage?

  • Patrik: A six pack Pripps Blå and a bag of potatoe chips. Can it get any better?

11. Which historical person do you feel would fit best as a description on you as a person?

  • Patrik: Hehe, I ain't got a good answer to this one...Emil i Lönneberga?

12. What most people don't know, never have known, and probably never would know about me if they don't read this?

  • Patrik: I won the Swedish National Championship in junior-boxing as a 14 year old kid.(46kg)

13. If a famous actor were to play the part as you in a motion picture - who would be best suitable for that purpose, you think?

  • Patrik: Eh....how about Viggo Mortensen?

14. What ingredient is the most important and vital of them all when making good music, according to you?

  • Patrik: That the song contains "heart and soul". It doesn't matter how good songwriter you are if you can't perform the song with attitude.

15. Your best advice to a person determined to make it in the metalbusiness?

  • Patrik: Don't ever give up. One day your big chance may come.
